Cumbrian Heavy Horses’ First Open Day!
Annie and Tim would like to invite friends, extended family and horse lovers everywhere to their Open Day on 1st November 2009.
We've been planning this for a while but as ever the frantic yard has taken over. We hope you can manage to visit, we have loads of fun competitions planned, with superb prizes from ourselves as well as local business', such as Mini Breaks, Rides, Wine, meals etc.
Competitions range from "Guess the weight of Dingle" (biggest horse)compared with "Guess the weight of Little Prince" (smallest Clydesdale) along with welly throwing, quite intricate Anatomy tests (see what you can remember!) and wheelbarrow races.
Also: “Around the world" competitions on the horses, heavy horse "pony rides" for all, a Riding Demonstration if the weather holds good (its too wet at the moment), a Hogroast, stalls in the barn, a second hand sale of both equine and general goods, the cafe and shop will be open with all sorts of gifts for Xmas and Heavy Horse equipment, tours of the premises (see what we've been up to), “Meet the horses and races of all kinds” (a bit like a big peoples sports day haha!!) all to raise funds for The Animal Health Trust, a charity who are researching a Strangles Vaccine, which is much needed.
We hope everyone will have a great day out, adults and children alike, enjoying the atmosphere and the horses here at Cumbrian Heavy Horses whilst raising money for a good cause. We hope to see you there!!
We also hope to make this an annual event so if you miss this year please keep next year free!!!
NB: Saturday evening (31st October) we're having a Private Party - if you have ridden with us, enjoyed the atmosphere, and are friends, please call me to find out more as we hope to have a Fancy Dress Competition to raise funds, again for The Animal Health Trust as above, and Andy's band are playing, so it should be interesting!

Farewell, dear Eddie...
Everyone, who has ever been to Chappels Farm knows our horses are our live, they are our friends. They work with us, rather than for us.
It is with great grief that we have to tell you all that yesterday, after a terrible field accident, we had to let go our dear friend Eddie, a young, happy and healthy horse. A friendly horse, ever so gentle to ride and lovely to behold. He will sorely be missed.
Thank you Eddie for sharing your time with us.

Let us hope that the smile of memory will soon lie beyond the tears of sorrow.

Back from the Rolex Kentucky 3 Day Event
Andy and Doreen who represented Cumbrian Heavy Horses at the Rolex 3 Day Event in Lexington Kentucky, would like to thank all those lovely people who came to visit us in the British Equestrian Trade Association Tent and made us feel so welcome in the United States. It was a real pleasure to be able to talk about our horses, our holiday rides and to hear that there is real interest in riding heavies in America. It would be great to meet you over here in the Lake District and to show you our beautiful countryside.
If anyone wishes to follow up on their discussions with Andy re any aspect of our holiday rides or generally riding with us please contact Annie as on the website, if you wish to contact Andy or Doreen directly please reply with "Attn: Andy" in the subject line and Annie will forward the email so you can chat!

Today, a busy week comes to an end with CHH’s first appearance at the most important fair for equestrian sports - the Equitana in Essen. We are more than happy and over- whelmed by the enormous interest in our horses and of course, we are looking forward to welcoming everybody over here.
A big “Thank you!” goes out to all those who made this great event possible for us and thus helped our magnificent Clydesdales and Shires to take one further giant step in their perception as riding horses.
